- Spotlight on the Discovery Centre
We’re really proud of the eco-credentials and design features that make up the Discovery Centre.
Click through the images below to find out what makes our building so special.
Standing at only 4.95 metres high, it was important to create a low-profile building that blended into the landscape.
With ramp access and wheelchair accessible viewing areas and toilets, the building is inclusive and accessible for all.
The building is raised on stilts 1.2 metres above ground level.
We generate about half of the electricity we use through solar panels on the roof.
The building was designed to the same footprint as Lime Kiln Cottage, carefully ensuring it sits outside the wildlife designations.
This generates renewable energy for our underfloor heating, helping to reduce our carbon footprint.
The building is clad in Sweet Chestnut and sourced from a coppiced woodland near Hastings.

We use passive ventilation, a design feature that uses very little energy consumption, through wall vents and a central raised ventilator.
